St. Marys Cement Inc applies Class A licence to remove more than 20,000 tonnes of aggregate annually

St. Marys Cement Inc. (Canada) has applied for a Category 1, Class “A” licence to excavate aggregate from a pit of 61 hectares in size. This application is for the establishment of a new pit and the annual tonnage condition applied for is 500,000 tonnes per calendar year.

Site plan information is available to view at the MNR Peterborough District Office. Making an appointment to view the information is required to ensure aggregate staff will be available to provide information and answer questions.

Comments received through the Environmental Registry should not be construed as an objection under the Aggregate Resources Act in accordance with section 4.0 – Notification and Consultation Standards of the Provincial Standards 1.0 under the ARA. To be considered as a formal objector, individuals need to contact the MNR person specified on this notice to determine how to submit an objection.

This proposal has been posted for a 30 day public review and comment period starting January 12, 2010. If you have any questions, or would like to submit your comments, please do so by February 11, 2010 to the individual listed under “Contact”. Additionally, you may submit your comments on-line.

All comments received prior to February 11, 2010 will be considered as part of the decision-making process by the Ministry of Natural Resources if they are submitted in writing or electronically using the form provided in this notice and reference EBR Registry number 010-8814.

Please Note: All comments and submissions received will become part of the public record. You will not receive a formal response to your comment, however, relevant comments received as part of the public participation process for this proposal will be considered by the decision maker for this proposal.

As specified in the Aggregate Resources Act, written notice concerning this application was delivered to landowners within 120 metres of the proposed licensed boundary; an information sign, giving notice to the public of this application, was erected at the haul road entrance to the property; and a Notice of Application appeared in the local paper, the Peterborough Examiner on Monday, November 2, 2009. A public information session was held on November 25, 2009, between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Neils Pind Room, Lakefield – Smith Community Centre, 20 Concession Street, Lakefield, Ontario.

The application for this proposal was circulated within the MNR Peterborough District office. Additionally, notification of this application was forwarded to the Township of Smith – Ennismore – Lakefield, the County of Peterborough, and the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority, for comment.
