Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation applies for waste disposal site
Ministry of the Environment, Environmental Registry
January 27th, 2010

This proposal is for a Certificate of Approval for a 8.2 hectare waste disposal facility (transfer) located at 294 through 348 Unwin Avenue, Toronto. Read the original posting here.

The facility requires approval to receive up to 2,500 tonnes per day of contaminated soil (with an average of 1,500 tonnes per day) and at a maximum storage capacity of 600,000 tonnes at any one time, to serve the City of Toronto. Some processing of the soils, including screening to remove large debris and biopiling to treat organic contaminants, will be conducted on site. The hours of operation are from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The soil management facility (SMF) will allow Waterfront Toronto to store contaminated soil for treatment and reuse within Designated Waterfront Area (DWA). A forthcoming application will be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment for the treatment of this soil on site. Application for section 9 of EPA Approval is submitted concurrently.
