| UPDATE: The comment period for the Cherry Beach waste site air emissions has been officially extended for two weeks, until April 2, 2010. Ministry of the Environment officials confirmed with Lake Ontario Waterkeeper on March 16, 2010 of the extension. Since the release of our newsletter “Who wants an industrial waste site near Cherry Beach?” we have had a number of people contact us to express their concerns and to request additional information about the site. You can still comment and let your concerns be known to the Ministry of the Environment through the Environmental Registry or by mail or email to: Lynda Mulcahy, M.ASc., P. Eng. Senior Review Engineer (Waste Unit) Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch 2 St. Clair Avenue West, Floor 12 A Toronto, ON M4V 1L5 Email: Lynda.Mulcahy@ontario.ca Lake Ontario Waterkeeper is currently working on a submission regarding a Certificate of Approval for air emissions at the same location. We have asked the Minister to extend the comment period due to the complexity of the issue and volume of permit applications for the waste site. We have also asked the Ministry to consider all the applications related to this site at the same time, which would be consistent with the Statement of Environmental Values. Your comments can be submitted online through the registry link or you can send submissions my mail or email to: Kenneth Wong Senior Reviewer (Air Emissions) Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch 2 St. Clair Avenue West Floor 12A Toronto, OntarioM4V 1L5 Email: ken.k.wong@ontario.ca At the time of this post, the documents for the C of A (air) were not available for public viewing. The end of the official comment period is still listed as March 19, 2010. For more information about the two permit applications please contact the respective persons in charge of the files or email admin@waterkeeper.ca. Remember, Ontario’s Environmental Commissioner, Gord Miller, always appreciates copies of anything you might choose to submit: Environmental Commissioner of Ontario 1075 Bay Street, Suite 605 Toronto, ON M5S 2B1 Email: commissioner@eco.on.ca Phone: (416) 325-3370 |
