A Kingston business has been awarded $2.5 million from the Ministry of Research and Innovation.

Kingston and the Islands MPP John Gerretsen presented the grant, from the Innovation Demon stration Fund, to Endetec yesterday at Innovation Park.

Endetec, the global sensor platform of Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies, was founded by Queen’s University researchers who wanted to find a better and faster way to monitor municipal water systems.

Endetec is currently working on a three-year, $8.7-million project to develop its next generation of water monitoring equipment. According to the company, this grant will ensure the project’s survival.
The money will also allow Endetec to create 20 new, highly skilled jobs by the end of the year.

“This growth is an important step in the development of an advanced monitoring platform,” company president David Dolphin said, in a release.

“This funding … helped ensure that Endetec remained headquartered in Kingston and we plan to expand with a significant product development program.”
