| Staff at the Port Hope Area Initiative Management Office (PHAI MO) are settling in at their new headquarters at 115 Toronto Rd. They made the move last weekend to the new digs at the corner of Jane Street, just south of the Marsh Road intersection and adjacent to the Pineview Plaza. “It became clear to us last year the PHAI MO had outgrown the facilities it had leased at 5 Mill St. South for the past seven years in downtown Port Hope. Our new office will provide a larger and more flexible work space that should meet our needs for the next eight to 10 years,” project director Christine Fahey says. Staffing levels have more than doubled over the past year as the PHAI MO undertakes the final planning and preparation activities for the remediation of contaminated sites and construction of the new long-term waste management facilities in Port Hope and Port Granby. As a result, the new PHAI MO office will occupy the majority of the ground floor area of the 115 Toronto Rd. location and include the IT capabilities necessary for its business operations. The Project Information Exchange, where local residents and visitors can meet with PHAI staff to learn about the Port Hope and Port Granby projects and the Property Value Protection Program, will be prominently located at the front of the building and offer barrier-free access. “Once we get settled in our new office, the PHAI MO plans to hold an opening event. For now, we look forward to continuing to keep local residents informed on the progress of our work,” Fahey said. “We encourage anyone with questions or matters that they’d like to discuss to drop by our office for a visit or to call us at 905-885-0291.Our e-mail address remains the same at info@phai.ca.” The Port Hope Area Initiative is spearheading the cleanup and long-term management of historic low-level radioactive waste in the municipalities of Port Hope and Clarington. The PHAI MO is a partnership of Natural Resources Canada with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and Public Works and Government Services Canada. via PHAI moves to new location – Northumberland Today – Ontario, CA. |
