Delay in receiving copy from feds
OSHAWA — The full wording of a long-awaited deal on Oshawa’s waterfront is expected to be available to the public on July 28.
City and federal officials announced highlights of the agreement at a public meeting on July 16, but the document itself was not released.
City manager Bob Duignan explained that it wasn’t signed by the feds until the day of the meeting, then had to be sent to Justice Canada for final approval. From there, copies have to be sent back to each party, which is what the City is waiting on.
“We weren’t given a definitive date, but we thought we would get it back last week,” he noted. “It has taken longer than expected for Justice Canada to process everything.”
Mr. Duignan said he has confirmation that the document is set to arrive at City Hall late Monday. After being checked by legal staff, it is expected to go online at www.oshawa.ca on Wednesday.
The public will be able to view two legal documents — a settlement agreement and a land use, development and municipal services agreement.
Waterfront stakeholders have complained about the delay, saying they can’t reach conclusions about the deal until the full text is available.
