Public swimming at Ontario Beach Park opens Friday – Greece, NY – Greece Post
June 15th, 2011

On June 17, the swimming season will officially begin at Ontario Beach Park, as the popular beach will open and run through Labor Day.

“Once again, we look forward to welcoming summer with the opening of swimming at Ontario Beach Park,” said County Executive Maggie Brooks. “Each year, thousands of residents and visitors alike enjoy a season of sun, sand and surf on the shores of Lake Ontario at this wonderful beach operated by our Monroe County Department of Parks. This is yet another family-friendly activity that we are proud to offer free of charge.”

Monroe County Lifeguards will be on duty and swimming will be permitted at Ontario Beach Park each day from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Swimming is only allowed when lifeguards are on duty.

As Lake Ontario is a large natural body of water, swimming will only be permitted when conditions and water quality are favorable. A recorded telephone message will be updated daily at 585-753-5887 with information on beach conditions and whether swimming will be permitted or not.

It is important to note that even if swimming is not permitted, the wide sandy beach at the park will remain open for recreational use.
