Oshawa beaches not safe to swim
The Oshawa Express
July 27th, 2011

Those looking to cool off in this scorching heat wave won’t be able to do so at Oshawa’s beaches.

The health department, which regularly conducts testing on beaches in the region, has ‘posted’ both the Lakeview Beach East and Lakeview Beach West this week.

That means bacteria levels are above the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standard of 100 E. coli per 100 ml of water so it’s not safe for swimming.

But those who are desperate to beat the heat can do so at the Whitby Beach. It’s open for swimming.

Throughout the summer, Durham’s Health Department conducts bacteriological water tests to determine if these beaches are safe for swimming.

Public Health Ontario’s laboratory in Peterborough provides analysis of all water samples submitted for testing.
