Thirteen of Durham\’s 14 beaches have been \’posted\’ this week, meaning bacteria levels have made it unsafe to swim.

Thirteen of the region’s 14 beaches have been deemed not safe for swimming this week.

The health department, which regularly conducts testing on the beaches in the region, has ‘posted’ both the Lakeview Beach East and Lakeview Beach West this week, which means they’re closed to swimmers.

Only Frenchman’s Bay West beach has passed the bacteria test.

Because bacteria levels are above the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s standard of 100 E. coli per 100 ml of water, it’s not safe for swimming, the health department says.

Throughout the summer, bacteriological water tests are done to determine if beaches are safe for swimming.

Public Health Ontario’s laboratory in Peterborough provides analysis of all water samples submitted for testing.
