InsideHalton Article: City publicly opens tender bids
August 31st, 2011

The City of Burlington has publicly opened the tender bids from the prequalified contractors interested in completing the Brant Street Pier.

“The city has received bids from recognized companies interested in completing Burlington’s Brant Street Pier,” Mayor Rick Goldring said in a press released issued by the city. “We are pleased to be moving forward, but the city needs to have all the financial and accurate tender information in place before naming a successful contractor.”

The four prequalified contractors with their bid prices follow:

• BOT Construction Ltd. of Oakville — $10,503,350

• Rankin Construction Inc. of St. Catharines — $6,714,234

• Toronto Zenith Contracting Ltd. of Concord, Ont. — $6,703,160

• Graham Group Ltd. of Mississauga — $6,429,700

The city has issued a budget of $15.07 million to complete the Brant Street Pier project, as city staff have estimated that removing the pier would cost $15.5 million — including costs so far, demolition of the pier and repaying other government funding.

The city will ensure that the bids comply with the requirements of the tender documentation issued to the seven prequalified contractors earlier in July and following that a report recommending a contractor will go to the Community Services Committee during its Sept. 14 meeting, according to the release.

City staff have previously stated that if city council approves the next steps in the approval process, it is expected that the pier will be completed by the summer of 2013.

The other three prequalified contractors included Mississauga-based Belor Construction Ltd., PCL Constructors Canada Ltd. from Hamilton, and Concrete USL Inc. based in Bolton, Ont.
