Days before the New Year, Brighton became the first town in Monroe County to enact a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, the controversial process of injecting a high-volume, high-pressure mix of water, sand and chemicals deep into the ground in order to extract natural gas from ancient shale deposits.

Could the town of Rush be next?
