Swimmable water is our mission. “Swimmability” means that the water is safe to touch. It protects anyone using the water for recreational purposes, whether they are swimming or kayaking or sailing or wading. The water quality standards for human contact are similar to standards for environmental protection, so swimmable water is generally water that also supports life.
This global event is not just about promoting the importance of clean and swimmable water; it’s about taking the time to enjoy your local waters by jumping in!
Floating on your back at your favourite swimming spot, snorkeling with your kids, sitting on the dock your feet in the water, it is easy to remember why you love water and why this precious resource has to be protected. But making and taking the time to connect with your watershed isn’t always a priority.
Swimmable Water Weekend is the perfect opportunity to go for a dip and remember what is so loveable about water in the first place. Join the global movement of people celebrating water by plunging into their local swimming holes, diving off docks, wadding into rivers, and crashing into the waves.
Join us! Here’s how:
- Visit your favourite swimming hole
- Jump in!
- Post a video/photo and tag 5 friends asking them to do the same
- Use the hashtag #SwimmableWater. Tag @LOWaterkeeper on Twitter or Instagram and we’ll share your images.
