"Farming" is a broad topic, that includes both agriculture and aquaculture. Agriculture is one of the dominant land uses along the south shores of Lake Ontario, as well as in the Bay of Quinte region. While not all farming has negative impacts on Lake Ontario, factory farms – hogs in Ontario, cattle in New York State – have taken their toll in recent years. Aquaculture – fish farming – is more common in other areas of the Great Lakes but is a growing practice.
