Sewers & Urban Runoff (1287 articles)
Sewer systems have an extraordinary ability to both protect and destroy the natural environment. Poorly planned systems will displace groundwater during construction, altering natural flows of water. They can leak, accidently carrying pollution into the environment, or they can overflow, intentionally dumping raw sewage into our rivers and lake. A well planned, properly maintained sewer system, on the other hand, can be used to protect the environment from the harmful impacts of raw sewage, landfill leachate, and industrial wastewater.
