For all they talk rock, quarries are about water
June 21st, 2011

The Nelson hearing is a quasi-judicial process, with law and science at the forefront. The story of a new quarry on the Niagara Escarpment runs deeper than the issues before the Joint Board. It is rooted in the people who live and play on the Mount Nemo Plateau, in the frogs, salamanders, and fish that live in its ponds and wetlands, and in the those who put their lives on hold... (more)

Canada’s fish are in trouble
April 11th, 2011

Some of Canada's oldest laws are designed to protect fish and fish habitat, cornerstones of our nation's culture, economy, and environment. Two of the most important environmental hearings in Canadian history have recently revealed that Canada's wild fish populations are not well protected. If you care about the environment and your neighbours (and we are pretty sure that you do), it's a good pact to make.NIMBY,... (more)

We never wanted to talk about nuclear meltdowns
March 23rd, 2011

Lake Ontario Waterkeeper's purpose is to protect and celebrate Lake Ontario. We work for you, for the water, for fish and birds, communities and culture. This week as we begin the Darlington New Nuclear Power Plant hearing, we feel as... (more)
