Hamilton and Region (1245 articles)
Hamilton Harbour is one of Lake Ontario's most notoriously contaminated areas. Most of the rivers that once flowed from the Niagara Escarpment to Lake Ontario have been buried. The shoreline is very industrialized, dominated mostly by the steel industry. More recently, construction of the Red Hill Creek Expressway developed one of the last remaining greenspaces feeding Lake Ontario in the area. Hamilton Harbour is one of Lake Ontario's "Areas of Concern." The city and surrounding region are home to some half a million people.
