Kingston and Region (848 articles)
The City of Kingston, Wolfe Island, and Bath are just a few of the communities that make up the easternmost part of Lake Ontario. This area supports many of the lake’s remaining natural areas and a small commercial fishery. Chronic sewage problems are some of the most persistent environmental issues in the region.

City’s harbour wasn’t exactly ‘picturesque’
February 13th, 2010

For a city that prides itself on its waterfront, there are surprisingly few picture postcards of what is now some of the most prized real estate in Kingston. The author of a new book on vintage postcards says there's a historically obvious reason why that is: For most of the city's history, what is today the city's centrepiece was a filthy, industrial mess that was better... Optics are worse than impact: official
January 4th, 2010

The annual Thousand Islands Poker Run is often held up as a symbol of conspicuous waste of energy and environmental indifference. The river as a way of life
January 2nd, 2010

It is late December. Down on the river, several bays are starting to ice over now. Open areas of water seem to be steaming, emitting vapour-like trails of rising mist river men call sea-smoke. Navigation on the St. Lawrence River is coming to a close. Outside, in downtown Brockville, it is beginning to snow. If any of this unsettled weather bothers the man seated in front of... (more)
