Niagara Falls and St. Catharines are the last Canadian cities along the United States border. Here, the famous Niagara Falls flow north, into Lake Ontario. The area is a mix of suburban development and some industry. Because of its unique soils and microclimate, the Niagara Region boasts a thriving wine industry. Like most cities on Lake Ontario, the area suffers from chronic sewage pollution and its beaches are frequently posted.
