Port Hope and the surrounding communities are part of Northumberland county. Each town has a population under 20,000 people and boast some of the north shore’s most historic downtowns. Port Hope is home to a number of nuclear-related industries, which have historically contributed to unique water quality problems in the area. Harbour dredging project begins

Between 3,000 and 3,500 cubic metres of sand will be dredged from the central area of the harbour entrance just before it splits into the canal leading to the yacht basin and the channel leading up the Ganaraska River, parks director Trevor Clapperton says.
