Ron Deibert (BA, MA, PhD) is Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Citizen Lab (citizenlab.org/) at the Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto. The Citizen Lab is an interdisciplinary research and development laboratory working at the intersection of the Internet and human rights. He is a co-founder and a principal investigator of the OpenNet Initiative (opennet.net/), a research and advocacy project that examines Internet censorship and surveillance worldwide, and the director of the psiphon censorship circumvention software project (psiphon.civisec.org/). Deibert has published numerous articles, chapters, and two books on issues related technology, media, and world politics
He has been a consultant and advisor to human rights and humanitarian civil society groups and government organizations on issues relating to Internet censorship, surveillance and information warfare. He was awarded the University of Toronto Outstanding Teaching Award (2002) and the Northrop Frye Distinguished Teaching and Research Award (2002), and was a Ford Foundation research scholar of Information and communication technologies (2002-2004). He was named to the Macleans magazine honour roll as one of 39 Canadians to have helped make the world a better place in 2006
Susan Schaefer is Vice President, Marketing, for Corus Television. In this role, Susan is responsible for brand development and overseeing marketing strategy and planning, including on-air promotions and off-air consumer and trade marketing efforts, as well as brand extensions for Corus Entertainment’s portfolio of specialty channels — W Network, Cosmopolitan TV, the soon-to-be-launched Viva, YTV, Treehouse, Discovery Kids, CMT, SCREAM, the pay TV service Movie Central and its multiplex offering, HBO Canada.

Prior to this, Susan’s marketing experience included over nine years with Cadbury Canada, as Director of Marketing among other roles. During her years with Cadbury, she was involved in brand management, developing a line of new products for the Canadian marketplace as well as evaluating international business opportunities for the company in Mexico, Russia and the U.S.

For 10 years, Susan served as a member of the Marketing Advisory Committee for the Toronto International Film Festival. She is now a Board Member for Rethink Breast Cancer.

Susan graduated in 1988 with an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. She is an alumna of The Judy Project, Rotman School of Management’s executive leadership program for women, and is also a faculty member with the North American Media Executive Leadership Program in Banff.

Corus Entertainment Inc. is a Canadian-based media and entertainment company. Corus is a market leader in specialty television and radio with additional assets in pay television, advertising and digital audio services, television broadcasting, children’s book publishing and children’s animation. Rob Cross Rob Cross has worked in the financial services industry for over 30 years having worked in both the banking and the leasing industry. Rob is currently a Senior Audit Manager with a major Canadian bank. His previous non-profit work includes Theatre Aquarius and Junior Achievement in Hamilton. Rob is a McMaster University graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Banks and has completed a numerous courses through the Canadian Securities Institute. In his spare time, Rob is a certified basketball coach and coaches a Juvenile Girls Rep team in Burlington. Rob resides near the Lake Ontario shoreline in Oakville, Ontario with his wife Ellen and their three children.
